Krabi: Complete Travel Guide to Beaches, Hotels & Excursions (2026)

Limestone cliffs rising straight out of the sea, beaches you can only reach by longtail boat, and dozens of islands just a short boat ride away: for many travellers, Krabi is the most beautiful stretch of Thailand’s Andaman coast. It’s quieter and smaller-scale than Phuket across the bay, while offering the same islands and the same season.

In this guide, you’ll find everything you need to plan your trip to Krabi: the best areas and hotels, the most beautiful excursions, the best time to visit, and how to get there.

Why Krabi?

The Highlights of Krabi

  • Railay & Phra Nang Cave Beach: Thailand’s most famous peninsula, car-free and only reachable by boat, with limestone cliffs that draw climbers from around the world and one of the most beautiful beaches in the country.
  • 4 Islands Tour: Krabi’s classic island tour, taking in Koh Poda, Koh Gai (Chicken Island), Koh Tup and Phra Nang, with the famous sandbank that connects three islands at low tide.
  • Hong Islands: A smaller island group off the coast of Tubkaek, with a lagoon you paddle into by kayak or longtail boat and one of the most beautiful bays in the Andaman Sea.
  • Emerald Pool & Hot Springs: Inland at Khlong Thom you’ll find an emerald-green natural pool in the forest and hot springs that flow into the river like natural jacuzzis.
  • Tiger Cave Temple: The temple on the mountain near Krabi Town, with 1,260 steps up to a golden Buddha and views across the whole province. Tough, but worth it.

Where to Stay in Krabi?

Your choice of area shapes your holiday more than the hotel itself. In short:

  • Ao Nang is the practical home base: restaurants, tours and the boats to Railay all within walking distance.
  • Railay is iconic Krabi: spectacular and car-free, only reachable by longtail boat.
  • Klong Muang & Tubkaek are the quiet luxury beaches, home to the best 5-star resorts in the province.
  • Krabi Town is the budget option: local, cheap and convenient for the ferries to the islands.

Excursions in Krabi

Krabi may well be the best excursion destination in southern Thailand: almost everything is within an hour by boat or by road. The most popular tours are the 4 Islands Tour and the Hong Islands Tour by longtail or speedboat, the day trip to the Emerald Pool and hot springs, and rock climbing at Railay, from beginner lessons to multi-day courses. Koh Phi Phi is also doable as a day trip from Krabi.

Best Time to Visit Krabi

How to Get to Krabi

Krabi International Airport (KBV) has direct domestic flights from Bangkok year-round (about 1 hour 20 minutes), operated by several airlines including budget carriers. That makes prices considerably friendlier than flying to Koh Samui. From the airport, you’re in Krabi Town in 20 minutes and in Ao Nang in about 45 minutes.

Combine with Khao Sok

Krabi is ideal to combine with a visit to Khao Sok. Khao Sok National Park offers an emerald-green lake surrounded by limestone cliffs, rainforest where you can hear gibbons, and unique accommodation options in a floating hotel on the lake or in a jungle treehouse.

Frequently Asked Questions about Krabi

Is Krabi better than Phuket?

How many days do you need for Krabi?

At least 4 to 5 nights: a day at Railay, at least one island tour, a day for the inland sights (Emerald Pool, hot springs or Tiger Cave Temple), and time to unwind by the pool or on the beach.

What is the best month to visit Krabi?

December through March gives you the best chance of dry, sunny weather. November and April are good shoulder months with fewer crowds. September and October are the wettest.

Is Krabi suitable for children?

Yes. The beaches of Ao Nang and Klong Muang are calm, several resorts have kids’ clubs, and tours like the 4 Islands are easy to do with children. Only Railay is impractical with very young children because of the boat landing on the beach.

Can you combine Krabi with Koh Samui?
