Hotels in Khao Sok: The Ultimate Guide to Jungle Lodges and Floating Hotels (2026)

Where you sleep in Khao Sok is not an afterthought but half the experience: you stay in a treehouse above the river, in a safari tent at the edge of the rainforest, or floating on the emerald water of Cheow Lan Lake. We stayed in several places ourselves, both in the jungle and on the lake, and can tell you exactly what to expect where.

In this guide we list the two areas and the best hotels by budget and travel style, so you can make the right choice for your stay right away.

Our recommendation from experience: combine both. First sleep one or two nights near the village (excursions, restaurants, easy to reach) and finish with a night on the lake; that order also works best logistically, because the lake tours pass by the pier anyway.

The Two Areas to Stay in Khao Sok

Khao Sok village: Jungle lodges on the Sok River

The small village of Khlong Sok at the main entrance of the park is the practical base: this is where the hiking trails are, where the canoe trips and night safaris depart, and where you find restaurants and small shops within walking distance. The lodges sit along the river beneath the limestone cliffs; in the morning you are woken by gibbons and hornbills. We slept wonderfully there, with the sound of the jungle as a constant backdrop.

Cheow Lan Lake: Floating hotels on the water

On the lake you sleep literally on the water: raft houses and floating tents sit against the limestone walls, reachable only by boat. You jump into the lake from your terrace, take the kayak for a morning round through the mist and in the evening see a sky full of stars without a single light nearby. For us this was the absolute highlight of Khao Sok.

How to Travel to Khao Sok

Khao Sok lies on Route 401 between the Gulf coast and the Andaman coast and is easy to reach from both directions: about 1.5 hours from Surat Thani Airport, 1 to 1.5 hours from Khao Lak, 3 hours from Phuket and 2.5 to 3 hours from Krabi. From Koh Samui you travel with a combined ferry + minivan ticket in 6 to 7 hours. The Cheow Lan Lake pier is about 50 minutes to an hour from the village; floating hotels and tours usually arrange that transfer themselves.

Khao Sok Hotels by Budget & Type of Traveler

Luxury: tented camps and floating resorts

Khao Sok has a small but unique luxury segment: safari tents in the style of an African camp and floating resorts with villas on the lake. No marble lobbies, but the most spectacular setting in Thailand.

Mid-range and budget: treehouses and riverside cottages

The core of the offering near the village: wooden treehouses and cottages by the river, with fan or air conditioning, for prices between €25 and €80 per night. Simplicity is part of the charm here.

Child-friendly family lodges

Sleeping in a treehouse, swimming in the river and searching for tarantulas in the evening: Khao Sok is an adventure park for children. Several lodges are well set up for them.

Romantic hotels

For a honeymoon or a trip for two, Khao Sok has a few places you will not find anywhere else, from a floating villa on the lake to a lodge deep in the jungle.

Best Time to Book a Hotel in Khao Sok

The dry season (December through April) is the most popular period, and that is when things get tight at the floating accommodations: each resort has only a limited number of places and in the peak months they are often fully booked weeks to months ahead. So book your stay on the lake first and plan the rest around it. The jungle lodges near the village have more capacity and are more flexible.

In the green season (May through November) Khao Sok is cheaper and quieter, and unlike the snorkeling islands off the coast, the lake simply stays open. Do expect rain showers and check whether your lodge offers all activities in that period; the Nam Talu Cave, for example, is closed then.

Practical Tips for Booking Your Hotel

  • Book the lake first: The floating resorts are the bottleneck; the jungle lodges follow easily.
  • Expect basic facilities on the water: Even the more luxurious floating accommodations run on solar power and generators; air conditioning is far from always available and wifi is often only at reception or not at all. As far as we are concerned, that is exactly the charm.
  • Bring cash: The park entrance fee (300 THB per adult per zone), the pier fee and drinks on the lake are almost always paid in cash; cards only work in the village.
  • Pack light for the lake: You take only a daypack to a raft house; large suitcases you leave at your lodge on shore or with the tour operator.
  • How many nights? Two nights in the village + one night on the lake is the golden ratio; with less time it gets rushed.

Frequently Asked Questions about Hotels in Khao Sok

How do you get to Khao Sok?

Khao Sok lies on Route 401, centrally between the Gulf and Andaman coasts. From Surat Thani Airport the drive takes about 1.5 hours. From Khao Lak it is 1 to 1.5 hours, from Phuket 3 hours and from Krabi 2.5 to 3 hours. Anyone departing from Koh Samui combines ferry and minivan and should count on 6 to 7 hours of travel time.

Which is better: sleeping in the jungle or on the lake?

They are two different experiences, and after staying in both places ourselves, our answer is: both. The jungle lodge is more practical (excursions, restaurants, accessibility), the raft house is more spectacular. If you really have to choose for one night, choose the lake.

How much does a hotel in Khao Sok cost?

  • Budget: For €20 to €35 per night you get a neat bungalow or simple treehouse near the village.
  • Mid-range: For €40 to €80 per night you are in the better riverside cottages and treehouses.
  • Luxury: The tented camps and floating resorts mostly work with packages including meals and activities; expect €150 to €400 per person per night, depending on the property.

Do hotels in Khao Sok have air conditioning and wifi?

Near the village: increasingly yes, although fan rooms are still common (and at night the jungle cools down nicely). On the lake: usually not or limited, because of the solar power. See it as part of the experience; the starry sky makes up for a lot.

Can you stay with a large family or group?

Yes, the lodges near the village often have family bungalows for 3 to 5 people, and raft houses sometimes have family rooms. For a group, book the floating accommodation well in advance; the number of rooms per resort is small.

Are you stuck with meal packages?

On the lake mostly yes: there is nowhere else to eat, so almost all floating accommodations work with full board or packages including boat transfer and activities. Near the village you simply book a room with breakfast and eat at the little restaurants; we found those surprisingly good for such a small village, by the way.
